Student Voice

One of the things students tell us is that they feel heard here at our school.

This is something that is important to us.

We encourage students to express their views, to take some responsibility in bringing about change that they want and to improve their self-esteem by knowing that they are seen and heard by the adults around them.

We collect student voice in various ways. Often that happens naturally and informally in conversations with staff. We sometimes do surveys to check in with their experience. Student voice is built into our work scrutiny cycles.

We also have a student council, a student LGBTQ+ group and we are developing a student led eco group.

Here are some examples of student voice leading to action and change

• Widening the rewards that students can exchange points for beyond the tuck shop treats.
• Adding a black Mckee fleece to the Mckee jumper as part of the uniform to keep them warm.
• Getting the fence in place around the yard.
• Creating the LGBTQ+ group.
• Adding tea and toast for all students at form time.
