Attendance
Our school target for attendance is 97%. This is in line with national expectations for all students. We know that good attendance is key for our students to get the maximum benefit from the education and opportunities we provide.
Good attendance is about keeping our students safe, improving their social and emotional health, developing habits of resilience as well as achieving their best outcomes and grades. Students who attend well make better progress academically, perform better in their GCSE exams and have better social development.
Students are known to us as individuals, and we miss them when they are not in school. We also know that students who are not in school are at higher risk of criminal exploitation or more likely to struggle with social isolation.
Where there are difficulties with attendance, we aim to build relationships and work together. Keyworkers and our attendance officer can listen to you, build some shared solutions and put in place different approaches that help get attendance back on track. This includes strategies from Lancashire’s Emotionally Based School Avoidance tool kit.
We have rewards and prizes that our students can achieve for good attendance on a weekly, half termly and termly basis.
What to do if your child is not going to be in school
If your child is not going to attend school on a given day it is very important that you let us know;
- We ask you to telephone school before 8:45am to let us know that your child will be absent, giving the reason and length of absence.
- If it is a planned absence ie appointment, give the school as much notice as possible.

Our Attendance Officer Denise Minto will phone if a student is absent and you have not informed us. We take safeguarding very seriously and where we cannot make contact a member of staff may conduct a home visit.
Where your child is struggling to consistently attend school, please do contact their keyworker or Denise our attendance officer so that we can work together to find solutions.
