School Meals
We know that when children eat well they do better and are more likely to thrive emotionally and socially. We also know that their habits for eating well throughout life are being shaped now.
Our school lunches at Mckee College House are freshly prepared in our school kitchen, by our superb catering team.
Here at Mckee College House, we have a 3 weekly rolling menu. We are proud of the lunches we serve and believe we offer excellent value for money to provide a tasty, but healthy well-balanced meal with fresh ingredients daily.
We are very proud to have a hygiene rating of a 5 and work hard constantly to maintain this.
Special dietary needs can be catered for, and vegetarian choices are available daily.
It’s important to us that our young people are getting the food and nutrition needed to get through a school day and are having those basic needs met well. It’s difficult to concentrate in class if you feel hungry. In addition to school lunches all our students can have the following free of charge each morning:
- Form time: Tea and Toast or cereal bars in form
- Break time: Juice and toast or bagels
On a Friday we have sausage or bacon sandwiches with vegan / veggie options at break time.

Free School Meals
Children are entitled to receive free school meals if they or their parents or guardians receive any of the benefits below:
- Income Support
- Income based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (if you’re not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an income less than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit - household income less than £7,400 (after tax and not including benefits)
Should I apply for Free School Meals?
Yes! Every child registered for free school meals increases the funding school can apply for, it also means we can access more resources for our children, such as laptops for remote learning, grants to provide one-to-one tutors, or other opportunities that can improve our students' education and life chances.

If you are eligible, we will be notified, and your child will receive free school meals until they leave school.
