Mental Health & Bespoke Support
All our students are individuals with their own unique life stories, strengths and challenges.
Our whole school approach is based on an aim of supporting students who may be experiencing trauma, mental health issues, unidentified need and who may have developed coping strategies that have become a barrier to them accessing and enjoying school. We are accredited as an Attachment and Trauma Aware School.
We provide students with daily access to their keyworker who is their champion, someone who believes in them, relates to them positively and uses the PACE framework of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (Dan Hughes) whilst also providing appropriate limits and reflection. In addition to their keyworker students have access to other emotionally available adults throughout the school day.
We know that sometimes even with that whole school approach sometimes our students might need a little more support and we tailor that support to their need.
The kind of individual support we offer is:
- SEND intervention sessions
- Preventing NEET targeted intervention sessions
- Emotionally Based School Avoidance support Targeted mental health wellbeing sessions
- Access to an external counsellor
- Safeguarding support Keyworker support
- 1:1 high support session outside of the usual school day
We offer “just in time” support in BASE for when students are not able to manage in a lesson and our wellbeing room when students need more emotional support or have something going on in their lives that makes accessing a classroom more difficult.
Our companion dog Mabel comes into school weekly to visit students.
Trauma informed ways of working have formed a large part of staff training and in key roles we have staff qualified in a range of additional skills and knowledge. This includes
