Key working Relationship

Relationships are firmly at the heart of what we do and how we work at the McKee.

We know that for some students building that relationship and feeling safe enough to create social connections can take some time and support.

We ensure each of our students has a keyworker – an emotionally available adult who can support them through their time with us. This might be in the form of coaching conversations, emotional support, being a listening ear, championing them.

Students are allocated a keyworker on starting at the Mckee. We provide students with daily access to their keyworker who is their champion, someone who believes in them, relates to them positively and uses the PACE framework of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (Dan Hughes) whilst also providing appropriate limits and reflection.

In addition to their keyworker students have access to other emotionally available adults throughout the school day.

The keyworker also looks to build strong relationships with home. They make regular contact throughout the week to keep parents and carers updated and are the first port of call for any queries home might have.

Keyworkers can access within school the expertise of the SEND team, subject experts, our attendance officer and our safeguarding lead and are an important part of the team approach to helping get a student the best fit support and provision so they develop as a whole person during their time with us.
